About Auditions (Where do I go? What do I do?)

When are auditions?  Where do I go?
Auditions are May 24th & May 25th at 7 PM at the SCT Playhouse: located at 518- 1st Ave. E. in Spencer.  Doors open half an hour prior to stated audition time.  Please note that it is not necessary to attend both audition times; one or the other will suffice. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic, please do not attend if you are feeling ill and please continue to practice safe, practical social distancing guidelines and hygiene practices.

Who can audition? What kinds of roles are available?
Roles are available for teens ages 14-19. A limited number of adults may be cast-please contact SCT for more details. Roles and character descriptions are listed at the end of this announcement!

What do I need to bring with me?  Should I prepare anything in advance?
Please be prepared to sing, dance, and act! We’ll have a song for everyone to sing, teach a short piece of choreography, and read from the script. There are four (4) suggested audition songs to choose from, two (2) traditionally performed by women and two (2) traditionally performed by men. You can find the original songs and karaoke backing tracks for the songs here:

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1LIjVWjpaoC9yXDDNPLMv8?si=RTh_Jx8pTmKFm_cw9PdN7g

Sheet music will be available for these songs at auditions, or may be purchased prior to auditions. Please Click Here for links to purchase sheet music and the cuts for each song. Please understand you ARE NOT REQUIRED to purchase sheet music or prepare any of these songs prior to auditions, and choosing not to prepare a song will not hinder your chances of being cast in the show.

You are welcome to read the script beforehand-they are available for checkout at the SCT Business Offices. If you would like to check a script out, please call 712-262-7336 and schedule a time to stop by. Our regular business hours are Tuesday-Friday. Please be aware of any potential scheduling conflicts-there will be room on the audition form for you to list your availability.

Closed Auditions
Auditions for Grease are closed, meaning that only the individuals auditioning and the Directing/ Management team of the production are allowed in the audition space.

About the Show (What is Grease?)

What’s this show all about?
Book, Music and Lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey

Here is Rydell High’s senior class of 1959: duck-tailed, hot-rodding “Burger Palace Boys” and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking “Pink Ladies” in bobby sox and pedal pushers, evoking the look and sound of the 1950s in this rollicking musical. Head “greaser” Danny Zuko and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski try to relive the high romance of their “Summer Nights” as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as “Greased Lightnin’,” “It’s Raining on Prom Night,” “Alone at the Drive-In Movie” recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard, and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation. Grease does contain adult themes.

When are rehearsals?
Rehearsals are from 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM Sunday-Thursday, although they will run later the week the show opens. Rehearsals begin Tuesday, June 1st and run until the show opens on July 8th. Not every person is called to every rehearsal; the time commitment typically depends on the size of the role! Rehears may look a little different from time to time due to SCT’s commitment to providing a safe, healthy experience for all those involved with the production, and we appreciate your patience and willingness to work with us as we continue to make theatre happen.

When are performances?
Performances are: July 8, 9, 10 at 7:30 PM, July 11 at 2:00 PM.

Where are performances?
Performances will take place in the SCT Playhouse at 518- 1st Ave. E., Spencer.

What if I still have more questions or want to talk to someone about auditioning?
No problem!  Feel free to contact SCT Executive Artistic Director Liz McNea at 712-262-7336 or liz@sctplayhouse.org. Grease will be directed by Lynn Morris-Turner, with Music Direction from Hannah V. Boyens.
